Transportation Program for Seniors (60+) and Veterans

Putnam offers FREE transportation options for Senior (age 60+) and Veteran residents.

  1.  Senior Transportation for Putnam residents ages 60+ is for your specific appointments (like doctor appointments) or for errands (like shopping, banks, town complex/library).
  • THIS FORM IS AN APPLICATION. YOU MUST COMPLETE THE APPLICATION TO BE ELIGIBLE FOR RIDES.
  • RIDES MUST BE REQUESTED AHEAD OF TIME THROUGH THE TOWN BY CALLING PUTNAM RECREATION.
  • These rides are only available within Putnam for Putnam residents only.

  • These rides will run Monday, Wednesday, Friday (except for holidays and/or during inclement weather – tune into WINY Radio for cancellations).

  • NOTE THAT THE FINAL RETURN FROM APPOINTMENTS MUST BE PICKED UP BY 2:30PM ON Mon & Wed, AND BY 12:30PM ON Fridays. Please plan accordingly!

2. Veterans Transportation is for any Putnam resident that is a veteran, and provides a ride to your appointment at either the Worcester MA VA facility or the Providence RI VA facility. 

Scheduling for Veteran specific timed appointments. You should schedule your appointment between 9:30am and 1:30pm:     

  • Tuesday van runs to the Worcester MA VA facility.  
  • Thursday van runs to the Providence RI VA facility.  

  • Please call to request rides at least 1 week in advance.
  • You will be contacted by the method you choose in the form (text, phone call, or email) regarding the status of your request.
  • Please reply to our message to you so we are sure we have reached you.
  • (Hints: have your voice mail set up and not full if you choose a phone call, check your "spam" or "junk" folder if you choose email.)
  • Questions can be directed to the Recreation Office in the town complex: 860-963-6811.

** Please note that all requests may not be able to be scheduled. We will let you know the status of your requests.

** If you try to board a Senior Shuttle Route without having requested a ride, you may be turned away due to capacity.

The Putnam Senior Transportation Program began in 2026 as a pilot program thanks to a 2025 grant from Senior Resources. 

The Putnam Veterans Transportation Program began in 2026 thanks to funds from the Veterans Advisory Committee (VAC).
