Justice of the Peace Marriage Ceremonies

Couples wishing to be married by a Justice of the Peace should follow these guidelines:

  • Select a Justice of the Peace: Justices of the Peace are members of the community and do not maintain offices at Town Hall.

  • Contact the JP directly: Couples must reach out to the JP of their choice to discuss availability and ceremony preferences.

  • Arrange the ceremony details: The couple and JP coordinate the date, time, and location of the ceremony.

  • Confirm the JP’s fee: Each JP sets their own fee for performing the ceremony. This fee is separate from the marriage license fee paid to the Town.

  • Obtain a marriage license: A valid marriage license must be issued by the Town Clerk before the ceremony can take place.

  • Bring the license to the ceremony: The JP will complete and return the license to the Town Clerk after the ceremony.
