NOTARY SERVICES

Notary Services are limited to 2 notarial acts per person. If you have a transaction (such as a refinance) that requires more than 2 notary signatures, you should seek out the services of a private or mobile notary.

PLEASE NOTE: NOTARIES cannot provide services for a Last Will and Testament. Please contact an attorney to assist you with your Will.

The Town Clerk’s office does not have the staffing to accommodate witnessing and signing of Powers of Attorney, Medical Powers of Attorney, Living Wills/ Advance Directives, Healthcare Proxy, etc. Please visit the Library to see if they are able to accommodate you.

We also cannot notarize documents being recorded on the Putnam land records.

 The following are REQUIRED in order to be provided with Notary Services:

The person(s) signing MUST appear in person before the Notary

The document CANNOT have already been signed

The person(s) must provide two forms of ID - one must contain the individual's signature, at least one of which also contains the photograph of the signer, or a physical description, such a driver’s license or passport. The other must have a signature on it, such as a debit or credit card.

The document must contain the appropriate notarial certificate:

                Types of Notarial Certificates: Jurat (swear) or Acknowledgement (free act and deed)

                The certificate MUST contain the oath given by a Notary to identify the type of notarial act

The Notary MUST be in the office and available at the time of request

                There are times that it is not convenient for Notary Services to be provided. You may be asked to come back.
