BULKY WASTE DAY:

       January 17, 2025, 9:00 AM - 1:00 pm at Pomfret Transfer Station, 10 Nora Lane, Pomfret.  Putnam residents must have proof of residency and the ability to unload items themselves.

                    SCHEDULE OF TOWN SERVICES

LARGE METAL AND APPLIANCES

Stoves, washers/dryers/refrigerators/ air conditioners, etc)      Town crews will collect these items during:

1) Last FULL WEEK of March and 2) Last FULL WEEK of August.                                                                                             Have metal and large appliances out at the beginning of the week.  Questions? call 860-963-6813

NOTE: Metal can also be brought to the highway garage during business hours and select Saturdays.  Proof of residency required.

BRUSH AND TREE LIMBS             

Brush must be six (6) inches in diameter or smaller.  Town Crews will chip brush at curbside the last FULL WEEEK of April and the last FULL WEEK in September. In the event of a major storm, the Town will chip brush at curbside town wide as soon as possible.  NOTE:  NO land clearing will be chipped or picked up by the Town.

LEAVES

The town vacuums leaves at curbside starting the first full week in November until December 1 or interrupted by inclement weather (snow, etc.)  NOTE:  Leaves are not vacuumed in the spring.

GRASS CLIPPINGS

Please mulch on your lawn or compost on site.  Grass Clippings cannot be placed into the trash.

Welcome to the Highway Department!

The Town of Putnam Highway Department provides a wide range of services. Among those is the maintenance and repair of 64 miles of road which includes 21 bridges, 17.5 miles of storm sewers with over 900 hundred structures and over 18 miles of sidewalk.

The Highway Department is responsible for the repair and maintenance of equipment and vehicles for the Highway Department, Parks and Recreation Department, Building Department and Fire Marshal vehicles. It also maintains buildings and grounds not under the responsibility of other town departments or agencies.
