Fire Marshal

Welcome to the Fire Marshal's Department!

The Putnam Fire Marshal is responsible for enforcing codes, standards and regulations in order to help reduce the potential harm associated with devastating fires, explosions and mechanical failures – in the interest of public safety.

The Local Fire Marshal is required to perform a variety of important duties to protect the liability of the Town. This includes an annual inspection of all buildings and facilities of public service and occupancies regulated by the Connecticut State Fire Safety Code.

The following information is provided to better understand the wide spread responsibilities fulfilled by the Local Fire Marshal’s Office:

In recent years the number of fires decreased across the United States. The number of civilian deaths slightly decreased by 0.6% over the same approximate time. The major strategies for reducing these risk are implemented through State Fire Marshal’s and the duties of the Local Fire Marshal. I cannot emphasize the importance of the Fire Marshal’s responsibilities in protecting the community from the devastation of fire.
