The meeting opened at 4:58pm. The following appeals were heard with decisions following:
Appeal 2017 – 1 Sean Sulivan, owner of 74 School Street, Real Estate
4:59pm Sean was sworn in by the chairman of the board. The board asked what his concern was. Sean stated he felt his assessment was high. The board stated his appraisal was prior to renovations. Sean stated he was pleased with his market value of 228,000 but not his current value of 271,800 after renovations. The board advised that he would be notified of their decision within 7 days. Board member Joseph Hopkins decision was 250,000 and members Lee Konicki and Anne Lamondy’s decision was 240,000. Final decision was value 240,000, assessment is 168,000.
Appeal 2017 – 2 Anthanasios Pasiakos owner of 58 Main Street, Real Estate
5:03pm Anthanasios was sworn in by the chairman of the board. Anthanasios immediately stated he had never paid close attention to his taxes in the past, and recently he has questioned his amount in comparison with local restaurants. This led him to question why his assessment was higher than others. Anthanasios spoke with other restaurant owners to come to this conclusion. Assessor explained to Anthanasios and the board members that his property was restaurant only as the others were mixed use properties. Anthanasios continues to feel this is unfair to him. Lee Konicki asked what he felt his property was worth, stated 161,000 assessment (value 230,000). The board advised that he would be notified of their decision within 7 days. Joseph Hopkins decision was 300,000, Lee Konicki’s decision 325,000, Ann Lamondy’s decision was 325,000. Board members final decision was a value of 325,000, assessment is 227,500.
Appeal 2017 – 3 Key Bank National Assoc. 163 Providence St.
Representative Aaron Jacobson did not show up. The boards decision was no change.
Appeal 2017 - 4 Werstler Properties LLC, owner of 439 Woodstock Ave.
5:37pm Eric Werstler was sworn in by the chairman of the board. Eric stated that he purchased this house in December for 110,721. Eric stated he is putting a tremendous amount of work into this house for resale. Eric stated he felt his assessment should be 70% of his purchase value of 110,000. The board advised that he would be notified of their decision within 7 days. Boards final decision was a value of 120,000 assessment is 84,000. Decision unanimous.
