1,000 Books Before Kindergarten
The concept is simple, the rewards are priceless. Read any book to your baby, infant and/or toddler. The goal is to  read 1,000 books before your precious one starts kindergarten. Pick up a reading journal at the Putnam Public Library, and every time your child reaches the goal of 100 books he/she will receive a FREE book!

The library offers a full collection of books, magazines, DVDs, videos and books on CD for children.

The Children's Room has three computers designed especially for Pre-K to third grade users.  These durable, child-friendly computers are loaded with more than forty top-rated developmental software titles in a full range of curriculum areas such as reading, writing, phonics and more.  The purchase of the Early Literacy Stations  was made possible by a generous donation from the Praxair Foundation.

Three story hours are offered for preschool children in two sessions from late September through early December and February through early May. The under 3 group is welcome at our program, Tina’s Tiny Tots, which meets  at 11 am on Fridays in the Community Room  on the lower level of the Library during the school year.   Preschool story time  meets on Tuesday at 4 pm and Thursday at 11 am  and requires registration. Unfortunately the lower level is not handicap accessible, so if there is a need the Tiny Tots program can be easily moved to the main level. Please call to request this change.  No registration is needed for Tina's Tiny Tots. Please call 963-6826 to register for Preschool story time and check out our Event Calendar for more programs.
