About Impact Plastics:
A subsidiary of Connecticut-based Apogee Corp., Impact Plastics
supplies extruded plastic sheet to the thermoforming and vacuum-forming
industries. Its sheet is used in the manufacture of a variety of
products, including medical packaging, point-of-purchase displays,
packaging for cosmetics, liquor, and jewelry. Since 1994, sheet
sales for the 30-year-old company have tripled, a trend that President
and Founder Steve Ryan attributes to the company's focus on innovation
and service.
"From the beginning, we have had a policy of operating with
the most advanced, up-to-date equipment," explained Ryan, "and
everything we do is custom engineered to the tightest tolerances.
We have long outdistanced our competition in terms of offering consistent,
precision products. Our growth is a result of the reputation we've
earned for being both very customer-oriented and technologically
innovative. And, we're still on a roll."
"We are an all-Battenfeld house," Vice President David
Kingeter explained. "Their precision equipment has enabled
us to take advantage of the competition's weakness and develop our
niche. With Battenfeld equipment, we are able to meet our customers'
expectations line-to-line, day in and day out, with no variation
from one extruder to the next, and produce at Impact line rates."
To keep pace with growing customer needs, Impact recently added
a Battenfeld Gloucester 4-1 /2 inch monolayer sheet extrusion line
capable of producing up to 15 million pounds of sheet per year.
The additional capacity was needed for the company to stay within
its two-week lead-time and maintain its Impact level of service.
Tailored toward small, custom-color cosmetic runs, the new line
is the sixth and smallest extrusion system that Impact has purchased
from Battenfeld. Impact's other lines have single and three-layer
capabilities with production capacities ranging from 15 million
to 20 million pounds per year. The new monolayer system features
a Battenfeld Contracool® extruder, and a flat die and feedblock.
It operates at speeds up to 95 feet per minute and produces sheet
in thicknesses from 10 to 250 mils. It was customized with a Model
2000 hydraulic three roll stack to give Impact Plastics added capability.
A Model 175B Fixed Shaft Dual Sheet Winder ensures high quality
rolls up to 3,500 pounds.
