*New* 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten *New*
The concept is simple, the rewards are priceless.
Read any book to your baby, infant and/or toddler.
The goal is to read 1,000 books before your
precious one starts kindergarten. Pick up a reading
journal at the Putnam Public Library, and when your
child reaches the goal of 100 books he/she will receive
a FREE book!
The library offers a full collection of books, magazines, DVDs, videos
and books on CD for children. Story kits are available with a variety of
materials centered around a theme.
The Children's Room has three computers designed especially for Pre-K
to third grade users. These durable, child-friendly computers are loaded
with more than forty top-rated developmental software titles
in a full range of curriculum areas such as reading, writing,
phonics and more. The purchase of the Early Literacy
Stations was made possible by a generous donation
from the Praxair Foundation.
During the school year two story hours are offered for preschool
children (3-5) with the Tuesday at 4 pm being open to
multi-age families. The under 3 group is welcome at our
Friday and Saturday program, Tina’s Tiny Tots.
Preschool story time meets Tuesday at 4 pm
and Thursday at 11 am. Tina's Tiny Tots meets at 11 am
on Friday and Saturday mornings in the Community Room
on the lower level of the Library. Unfortunately the lower level
is not handicap accessible, so if there is a need the
program can be easily moved to the main level.
Please call to request this change.
No registration is needed for Tina's Tiny Tots.

Read to Tattle and Sleepy Tales with Zoda are monthly programs
with our dog friends. Tattle and Zoda are gentle dogs
with therapy training who come in to the library to listen
to children read. Children sign up for 15 minutes at a time
and after their session they can give the dog a supervised snack.
Fun for child as well as dog!
