The Putnam Redevelopment Agency commemorated its 50th anniversary this year with the sponsorship of a new video entitled “And The Next Morning, There Was Sand … Everywhere” – a chronicle of the Great Flood of August 19, 1955 which rampaged through the river valleys of Connecticut, Massachusetts and Rhode Island, with particular damage to towns along the Quinebaug River.

When the Redevelopment Agency was formed fifty (50) years ago, it was for the purpose of leading the Town's rebuilding after the storm’s devastation of homes, small businesses, and the river mills which for so long had been the foundation of the Town's economy.

The video was produced by eWaveMedia of Putnam and combines old newsreel footage with modern day reminiscences of the flood. WINY 1350 AM’s Gary Osbrey and Putnam Town Historian Bob Miller , along with a cast of other characters, provide the video’s commentary.

Available soon for gift orders will be a DVD which includes the video, along with a WINY-AM “Remember When” broadcast about the flood and a collection of historical photos.
